Public Notice of Application  -  March 26, 2026
      (Closes April 25, 2026) 

The Summer Village of Rochon Sands would like to advise residents and visitors of a Public Notice of Application issued by the Province of Alberta regarding Buffalo Lake.

Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation has submitted an application to Alberta Environment and Protected Areas under the Water Act to amend the Buffalo Lake stabilization licence. The application proposes to remove the current suspension on pumping water into Buffalo Lake, contingent on the installation of a filter system designed to prevent invasive Prussian carp (and their eggs) from entering the lake from the Red Deer River.

💧 What’s important to understand:
  • This is not just a pipeline to Buffalo Lake. It’s a large regional water management system that has supported agriculture and communities for decades, with Buffalo Lake being one part of that system.

Rochon Sands Bay Projects – Important Construction Updates

The Province has removed the legacy Streit/Zender rock pile as planned for this winter.

Important Safety Notice

For the safety of residents and visitors, please follow these important precautions:
  • Stay clear of the excavation zone at all times.
  • Do not walk or drive on the excavated areas.
  • No pedestrian or vehicular traffic is permitted within the excavation area.
  • The Bay boat launch is currently closed and off limits to all lake access traffic.

  • Please respect all posted signage and barriers in the area.

Construction Updates (#1 & #2 & #3) -  February 24 & February 28 & March 7 - 2026

The Summer Village of Rochon Sands wishes to provide residents with an update regarding the three coordinated projects in Rochon Sands Bay:
  • Removal of the legacy Streit/Zender rock pile (Provincial project)
  • Maintenance excavation of the municipal boat launch
  • Maintenance excavation of the marina basin

Following extensive coordination with the Government of Alberta regarding removal of the legacy rock pile, and several months of detailed regulatory permitting to position the boat launch and marina excavation for winter construction, the projects successfully progressed during the 2026 winter construction window.

2026 - 2029 Summer Village of Rochon Sands Strategic Plan
Council would like to thank residents who took the time to complete the 2025 Your Voice, Our Future community survey. Your feedback played an important role in shaping Council’s Strategic Plan and helping to guide priorities for the coming years.

The Strategic Plan 2026–2029 establishes the Village’s direction for the next four years. It reflects what residents value most — our lake, our environment, our small-village character, and our strong community connection — while ensuring Council and Administration maintain responsible, transparent, and sustainable governance. It is a practical, measurable guide for municipal decision-making, resource allocation, and community priorities.

Tax Installment Payment Plan (TIPP)
Paying your taxes in monthly installments is a great way to help your budget!   ​The Tax Installment Payment Plan simplifies your tax bill, allowing you to pay your property taxes on a monthly basis instead of one payment in June.  Payments are automatically withdrawn from your account each month. TIPP makes budgeting easier and helps you avoid the risk of penalties. There are no extra fees or interest charged on the TIPP program.
